Water - The
Source of Life
There are
several water holes on Shackleford, but when the horses are not
near one, they know to go to the shore or a swale and dig wells
with their hooves. As water seeps into the hole ... they drink.
Near the sound, the water is a little more brackish than we would
care for but the horses think it is just fine.

Here, a mare
scolds a youngster who is hanging around to get some of her water.
She soon sends him packing ... to start digging his own hole. 7/97
